Virtual staging for a home office

A small spare room reads as wasted space when it is empty and as a workable office the moment there is a desk in it.

  • 3 credits a room, whatever the style
  • Works from one photo — furnish it, restyle it, or empty it first
  • Consistent across several angles of the same room

What matters in a home office

A desk, a chair and shelving at a scale that proves the room works, without filling it so completely that it looks cramped. This is the room where staging changes the perceived purpose, not just the look.

Shooting for it

Shoot toward the window. An office staged against a blank wall looks like a box room with a desk in it.

Before you stage it

  • Stage the spare room as an office only when the listing is aimed at buyers who work from home. For a family home a second bedroom usually reads better.
  • Keep the window and the door in the frame so the desk can face the light, which is how a real office is laid out.
  • If it is only cluttered rather than badly furnished, declutter at 2 credits is cheaper and keeps the real furniture.
  • Staging adds content that was not in the frame. Export with the "virtually staged" stamp where your MLS requires it.
  • It stages rooms, it does not renovate them. Worktops, walls and windows stay as they are.

Staging a home office:
questions

  • Can the same spare room be shown as an office and as a bedroom?
Yes. Run the photo once as a home office and once as a bedroom, 3 credits each, and let the agent choose or use both. Each version can carry the virtually staged stamp.
  • How much does it cost to stage a home office?
3 credits per room, the same as every other room type. On a monthly plan that is roughly a dollar a room. There is no separate charge to download the result.
  • Can I try more than one style on the same room?
Yes, each run costs 3 credits. Agents often want to see two options for the main rooms, which is worth pricing into what you charge for the shoot.
  • What if the home office already has furniture?
Use Keep Layout to restyle around what is there, or Empty Room to clear it and stage from scratch. Which one you want usually depends on whether the existing furniture is the problem.
  • Do staged photos need a disclaimer?
Several MLS markets require one. Exports can carry a "virtually staged" or "digitally altered" stamp in the corner. Check your own MLS rules.
